School Closure March 2020
Due to schools being closed, the teachers have produced the work below for children to complete at home. We hope they will enjoy the activities and ask that they upload their work onto their portfolios on Class Dojo so that the teachers can see their work.
At Barton Church of England Primary School, we have designed our own unique and creative approach to learning to inspire every child to want to learn and to develop the skills, knowledge and passion to flourish. In our small rural school, our team of enthusiastic and passionate staff nurture positive relationships that enable our children to flourish from their different starting points. We make learning irresistible for our children through planning a series of exciting integrated curriculum themes based on purposeful learning for real audiences. Where children can make connections between what is being taught and learnt today and the bigger picture. Such as learning about and supporting local food banks as part of our ‘Food For Thought’ theme. In line with mastery learning, we focus on depth in every subject area so that children can apply knowledge and develop skills and study the national curriculum with age-related progression with confidence.
We start with a whole school creative curriculum overview which has been designed by our whole staff team to ensure that it meets the needs of our children in our local context. Our unique curriculum, enables children to have a strong voice, to be aspirational about their own future and to leave a legacy for the school, the community and the wider world.
Next, our class teachers in collaboration with subject leaders, devise their long term plans to ensure all areas of the National Curriculum programmes of study are covered and our children learn in a sequential way so that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before.
Then staff from Barton and Ravensworth Schools work together very effectively to plan an exceptionally broad and rich curriculum that inspires our children to grow as active, healthy and engaged citizens.
