At Barton, East Cowton , Kirkby Fleetham and Ravensworth Schools our PSHE and RSE curriculum intends to provide children with the tools they need to navigate through their lives now and in the future. We aim to provide the skills, knowledge and understanding for children to thrive as individuals, family member and as part of a community. Our PSHE provision aims to equip children with the skills to develop strong and positive relationships, knowing how to stay safe and keep themselves healthy and with a positive self-image. We intend to develop confidence, resilience and self-esteem so children are able to manage risk and make informed choices. . It will equip them to recognise, accept and shape their identities, to understand and accommodate difference and change, to manage emotions and to communicate constructively in a variety of settings. Further to that, it will empower them to speak out against injustice or inequality and make a positive contribution to society.
North Yorkshire curriculum entitlement framework which has been used to develop our collaboration’s progression document. We follow a 4 year rolling programme where the key areas of: myself and relationships, keeping myself safe, my healthy lifestyle, me and my future and becoming an active citizen are central to the planning and delivery. We work in a cross-curricular way and all aspects of personal, social, health and relationships education is woven through the curriculum so that children are secure in their understanding and comfortable asking questions and expressing opinions in an environment that is supportive and nurturing.
